Mohammed El-Kadi - A great entrepreneur and a long-time friend of GAF

We at GAF learned with great sadness about Mohammed’s unexpected death in Dubai last week.

He will stay in our memories as a remarkable and energetic person with a great sense of humour and profound foresight for innovative business decisions, which GAF had the opportunity to share and participate in.

GAF has been awarded a multi-year contract by the German Federal State of Saxony-Anhalt to perform crop monitoring in the context of the European CAP

GAF AG has won the first European call for tenders for the operational implementation of the agricultural area monitoring system in Germany in 2021 stipulated by the European Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). The Paying Agency makes use of GAF’s sophisticated cloud-based solutions for the automatic monitoring of agricultural parcels.

The contract runs for the next three (+1) years and covers the rapid, accurate and fully automated continuous monitoring and precise verification of numerous crop types covering the entire area of Sachsen-Anhalt, and the evaluation of compliance with agri-environmental and climate measures, using both optical and radar data from the European Copernicus Sentinel Missions.

A consortium with strong GAF contribution has been awarded the implementation of the latest European Copernicus service for the monitoring of ground motion

The Telespazio and Italian Space Agency joint venture, e-GEOS, has coordinated a successful bid in response to an invitation to tender issued and assigned by the European Environment Agency (EEA). e-GEOS will lead a consortium including, amongst others, the German members GAF and DLR, the Norwegian institute NORCE, the LTK Satellite Geodetic Observatory (SGO, Hungary), the Dutch company PPO.labs and the Italian company TRE ALTAMIRA. The new European Ground Motion Service (EGMS) will enable monitoring of millimeter-range ground motion through time series of satellite based radar observations

GAF is taking part at European Space Week 2020

GAF takes part in the European Space Week Online Event from 7-11 December 2020, organised by the European Commission and the European Global Satellite Systems Agency, GSA. We are especially glad to present our GAF-projects and EU Horizon 2020-milestones: ECoLaSS and EOMonDis at one of GSA’s sessions, which will demonstrate H2020 success stories on: Friday 11 Dec.; H2020 projects - success stories; 9:00-10:00 am.

GAF AG and BKG intensify their cooperation regarding the provision of multi-source remote sensing data

GAF AG, one of the largest European providers of geographic information services with a focus on earth observation, has won an international tendering process issued by the German Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy (BKG) for the provision of remote sensing data. The framework agreement concluded on that basis includes consulting services and the granting of exclusive access to the BKG and its users to high-resolution and very high-resolution optical satellite images and radar images.

With its satellite-based crisis and situation service, the BKG makes an indispensable contribution to providing straightforward and rapidly-prepared information products derived from geodata and remote sensing to all the federal institutions. This enables a rapid response in the case of security-relevant and critical challenges.

GAF conducted rapid assessment of storm and drought damaged forests for the entire Federal State of Thuringia using Copernicus Sentinel2 data

GAF AG did a forest area change assessment for the entire federal state Thuringia based on Copernicus Sentinel 2 data within a few days. The analysis focused on storm and drought damaged areas in-between 2019 and 2020. Within that year more than 6.000 ha of damaged forest had to been cleared to prepare afforestation measures or show a significant reduction in tree vitality. The analysis was carried out on behalf of ThüringenForst AöR. The information is used to plan the required afforestation measures in an effective manner.

GAF participates at the ESA EO Φ-WEEK 2020 virtual

GAF has been selected by ESA to contribute recent developments at the Φ-week 2020. The cloud computing solutions are presented in form of an e-poster titled "Cloud-Based Solutions for Automatic Monitoring of Agricultural Parcels in the Frame of the European Common Agricultural Policy".

The comprehensive service for agricultural administrations integrates geospatial data analysis and artificial intelligence in a cloud environment.
