GAF moves on in providing key geo-information products in support of urban development programmes

GAF and partners successfully complete the first phase of the Project on "Earth Observation for Sustainable Development - Urban Development" and now are been awarded the contract for phase 2.

In phase 1 more than 200 geo-information products based on Earth observation for in total 16 Cities have been produced and have been provided to both users of the Multi-Lateral Development Banks and counterpart city authorities. In particular, all the products reached a high quality and overall accuracies to the full satisfaction of clients and users.

The Phase 2 will run for 2 years and will see a continuation of stakeholder engagement with the Banks and Cities in order to provide further high quality and high utility geo-spatial products for urban planning.

GAF concludes together with its partner Telespazio Ibérica very high resolution topographic mapping in the Democratic Republic of Congo

GAF has successfully delivered 84 000 sqkm of high quality topographic maps based on high resolution optical satellite data.

The maps follow the international standards and have passed independent quality checks.
They now serve as essential base information for the geological and mineral potential mapping.
A second phase contract of 49 000 sqkm additional mapping has now been awarded to GAF.

These topographic maps constitute an indispensable asset for all upcoming in-situ mining development activities under PROMINES (support to the mining sector project).

This project is funded and supervised by the World Bank, Washington.

GAF has presented its results on site in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo.

Perfect Reference in x, y and z for Europe

The Indian Cartosat-1 (IRS-P5) is currently the only operational optical stereoscopic satellite system in orbit. Its fixed mounted stereo camera is acquiring 2.5 m stereo data and is forming an ideal basis for digital surface models and resulting optical reference systems.GAF AG has developed in close co-operation with the German Aerospace Center (DLR) a highly automated processing chain, and generated ortho-images and digital elevation models based on Cartosat-1 data for several millions of square kilometres for satisfied customers. The outstanding and unmatched Cartosat 1 coverage with up to 15 overlapping stereo pairs is the basis for a highly reliable product.

A perfectly homogenous 3D reference layer for Europe will be available in early 2018!

GAF AG participated in the 23rd MARS Conference in Dublin, Ireland from 27.-29. November 2017.

The 23rd MARS conference provided a valuable platform to exchange and discuss recent developments and experiences regarding the application of remote sensing within the Integrated Administration and Control System (IACS).

Special focus was placed on the future orientation of the European Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). Simultaneously, the European Commission released in Brussels and at the MARS conference the conceptual outline of the future of food and farming within CAP 2020. With simpler rules, a more flexible approach and comprehensive inclusion of Sentinel data, a paradigm shift in the regulations and in the control technology will take place.
