About Air Quality in Europe’s Cities and Regions – 16th November 2015

GAF together with bavAIRia and project partners invite interested stakeholders to join the air quality conference, which is taking place in the “Hotel Thon EU” in Brussels.

The conference aims at introducing different aspects of air quality. These are presented by experts from policy, administration, science and industry to stimulate an interdisciplinary dialogue on air quality in urban areas.

Stakeholders from different domains as well as interested citizens have the chance to inform themselves and to discuss the air quality situation in individual regions as well as pan-European developments. Among the contributing experts are Emanuele Barreca, Policy Officer at DG Grow, Thomas Verheye, Unit Head at DG Environment and Peter Pluschke, Deputy Chair at Eurocities.

The conference has been initiated with support of the EU funded project obsAIRveYourBusiness within the EMMIA initiative (European Mobile and Mobility Industries Alliance).
Within the project, GAF has created mobile apps to provide easy and comprehensible information to citizens about the current air quality situation at their place of residence. The obsAIRveYourBusiness service uses satellite data and in situ data to model area-wide information on ozone, NO2 and PM10. The app provides current model values and forecasts together with a general index value for increasing the awareness for air quality and for supporting citizens in taking care of their health. The service has been demonstrated in two European pilot cities: Augsburg and Paris. The results of the project will be presented in the framework of the conference.
