GAF AG donates to the project OneDollarGlasses (EinDollarBrille e.V.)

As part of a Christmas initiative, GAF staff collected a proud sum for the OneDollarGlasses Association (EinDollarBrille e.V.). This amount was then doubled by the GAF management and a total of 4182€ was donated.

Worldwide, more than 150 million people are in need of glasses but cannot afford them. This means that they cannot learn, get jobs or care better for their families. This motivated the German teacher Martin Aufmuth to start the production of glasses in 2010 using materials costing less than one US dollar.

The glasses consist of a lightweight, flexible spring steel frame and prefab lenses. They can be manufactured locally with simple bending machines. The project is now active in seven countries (Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Brazil, Ethiopia, Malawi and Rwanda). Last year, the OneDollarGlasses team sold its 10,000th pair of glasses in Burkina Faso. In November 2015, OneDollarGlasses won the Tech Award in San Jose, in recognition of the concept of creating self-contained and financially independent structures for people in developing countries in order to enhance their visual healthcare.
