GAF AG did a forest area change assessment for the entire federal state Thuringia based on Copernicus Sentinel 2 data within a few days. The analysis focused on storm and drought damaged areas in-between 2019 and 2020. Within that year more than 6.000 ha of damaged forest had to been cleared to prepare afforestation measures or show a significant reduction in tree vitality. The analysis was carried out on behalf of ThüringenForst AöR. The information is used to plan the required afforestation measures in an effective manner.
