#Ausgezeichnet! GAF Auszubildender hat Deutschlands besten Abschluss in Geomatik

Die GAF AG ist stolz auf ihren Mitarbeiter Tobias Schraufstetter, der von der IHK für München und Oberbayern die Auszeichnung „Bundesbester Auszubildender 2021“ in Geomatik erhält.

Drei Jahre lang absolvierte er über die IHK und die GAF die duale Ausbildung zum Geomatiker. Dafür war er bei der GAF genau an der richtigen Adresse: Die GAF ist seit über 35 Jahren im Bereich angewandte Fernerkundung tätig – und einer der größten europäischen Geoinformationsdienstleister für Erdbeobachtungsdaten.

Tobias faszinierten von Anfang an die praktischen Anwendungen: „Besonders spannend an meiner Ausbildung finde ich, dass man von seinem eigenen Schreibtisch aus, nur mit einem Bildschirm, einem Rechner und einer Maus die ganze Erde beobachten kann". Tobias ist nun nach seinem Abschluss fester Mitarbeiter bei der GAF.

A key to the GAF world in 3D – Dr. Pablo d’Angelo (DLR) awarded the Manfred Fuchs Innovation Prize

Dr. Pablo d’Angelo, from the Remote Sensing Methodology Institute (IMF) at the German Aerospace Center (DLR), was awarded the Manfred Fuchs Innovation Prize for his elevation model algorithm by the Society of Friends of DLR (GvF) on 11/11/2021. This algorithm has enabled the development of very high resolution and extremely precise elevation models.

Dr. Sebastian Carl, GAF CEO, gave a speech praising the DLR scientist: “His algorithm has been an absolute game changer. It allows us to generate and provide surface models with resolutions of 30 cm to 5 m from any source data in various forms under the label GAF Elevation Suite as standard products. Since 2008, we have produced almost 13 million km² of coverage with a 5 m resolution and over 100,000 km² in VHR resolutions of 50 cm and better.”

Die GAF AG, das Deutsche Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) in Neustrelitz und die Antrix Corporation arbeiten seit 25 Jahren erfolgreich zusammen. Sie unterzeichneten 1996 einen Kooperationsvertrag über den Empfang indischer Fernerkundungsdaten für die erste exklusive Vermarktung von Erdbeobachtungsdaten in Europa. Damit begannen 25 Jahre erfolgreicher Zusammenarbeit der drei Partner. Sie sorgen bis heute und auch künftig für den Empfang, Vertrieb und die Verarbeitung von Millionen von Satellitendaten.

25 years of successful cooperation between GAF AG, DLR and Antrix

GAF, the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Neustrelitz and Antrix Corporation have a successful cooperation stretching back 25 years. In 1996, they signed agreements for the purpose of receiving Indian Earth observation data and distributing the data to European customers on an exclusive basis. That was the starting point for 25 years of successful cooperation and the acquisition of millions of scenes so far – and on into the future.

#T-TeC 2021 - Telespazio Technology Contest

This year again sees the return of the #T-TeC Telespazio Technology Contest, the Open Innovation initiative aimed at promoting development and technological innovation within the space sector among the young generations, enhancing the value of their ideas and insights and imagining together with them the technologies that will mark the future.

For this edition #T-TeC is open to participation by students and researchers from universities and departments worldwide, who will challenge each other on their innovative abilities until 14 November, the closing date for the contest.

GAF AG and GIZ have successfully launched the Earth Observation Laboratory (EOL) at the premises of the “FAZO” Institute in the Republic of Tajikistan.

The activities are part of the GIZ project “Technology Based Adaptation to Climate Change in rural Areas of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan” (TCCA-RA). GAF AG was contracted to assist in establishing the EOL facility and infrastructure. It was also commissioned to support FAZO with intensive capacity building activities, focusing on earth observation and remote sensing technologies.  The thematic emphasis lies on mitigating the impacts of climate change in the country. The first six-week training block was concluded successfully in mid-July with positive feedback from trainees and GIZ.

As part of the Committee of Land Management and Geodesy of the Republic of Tajikistan, FAZO intends to use the new EOL as a future hub for earth observation products and services in the country.
