The second phase contract for topographic mapping in the DR of Congo has now been awarded to GAF

GAF AG, together with its partner Telespazio Iberica has begun to map an additional 49,000 sqkm in the northeast of the country based on high-resolution optical satellite data. The consortium has already successfully mapped 84,000 sqkm to support the activities under PROMINES (support to the mining sector project). The maps in scale 1:50,000 (s. example) comply with international standards, and will later be used as base information for geological and mineral potential mapping. This will follow in later stages of this project, which is funded and supervised by the World Bank, Washington.
