GAF AG did a forest area change assessment for the entire federal state Thuringia based on Copernicus Sentinel 2 data within a few days. The analysis focused on storm and drought damaged areas in-between 2019 and 2020. Within that year more than 6.000 ha of damaged forest had to been cleared to prepare afforestation measures or show a significant reduction in tree vitality. The analysis was carried out on behalf of ThüringenForst AöR. The information is used to plan the required afforestation measures in an effective manner.
GAF has been selected by ESA to contribute recent developments at the Φ-week 2020. The cloud computing solutions are presented in form of an e-poster titled "Cloud-Based Solutions for Automatic Monitoring of Agricultural Parcels in the Frame of the European Common Agricultural Policy".
The comprehensive service for agricultural administrations integrates geospatial data analysis and artificial intelligence in a cloud environment.
For more detail, please check our youtube video under the following link:
To connect in-person, please join us virtually during the e-poster session on Thursday 1st October (From 4:30 PM till 6:00 PM) for live discussion/meeting.
In times of accelerating climate change and recurrent summer drought, damages to forests caused by wind storms are rapidly increasing across Europe, both in frequency and extent. Such disasters have substantial economic impacts, but do also threaten natural resources, ecosystems and habitats.
This year the Geo-community will meet for the first time from October 13 – 15 in a digital format at Intergeo 2020.
Despite the changed external circumstances - We are happy that we are able to share again a common booth with our partners!
Together with our partners European Space Imaging, Runder Tisch GIS e.V, and T-Systems we again will provide the central point of contact for cross-system information about satellite data, geo-information and associated services.
Discover together with us this new form of event and talk directly to our experts about the latest developments - for example our innovative cloud-based services, which are implemented on a variety of platforms!
After international competition coming out on top, a GAF led consortium has been awarded the contract to strengthen the capacities of the Mines Inspection Department (MID) of the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development (MMSD) in Abuja, Nigeria.
The project will assist the MID to secure and control government revenues and legal obligations of the mine title owners and operators. One focus of the project is the inspection of artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) activities.
Cloud solutions for GAFs highly automated evaluation of satellite data for monitoring the complete agricultural areas of two Federal States in Germany
GAF AG has been again awarded contracts for the highly automated evaluation of satellite data for the monitoring of agricultural areas. The services have been extended to cover whole area of federal States. GAF will realize the entire process chain on the C-DIAS Platform Mundi Web Services as cloud solution, which offers new possibilities of processing, data storage volume and distribution.
GAF will be using a large quantity of high-resolution satellite data from the Sentinels 1 and 2, as well as Planet Scope data to check smaller plots.
The project’s objective will be the rapid, accurate and fully automated verification of numerous crop types and the compliance with agri-environmental and climate measures within the framework of the modernisation and simplification of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) in the EU for the awarding of subsidies.
The new European standard in Copernicus Land Monitoring for the coming decade: CLC+ Backbone has been kicked off
A European consortium of 14 companies and research institutions from 11 EEA member countries under the lead of GAF (Germany) has been awarded a 10 million € framework contract for implementing the CLC+ Backbone, the new ground-breaking standard in Copernicus Land Monitoring. This unique product will constitute a key element in monitoring the European Green Deal and strengthen Europe’s position as a global leader in tackling climate change issues.
Chernobyl mapping has been one of GAF's first projects. Now, nearly 34 years after the Chernobyl Disaster new mapping is under way via Copernicus Satellites - We see, Earth Observation is still one of the most powerful tools in science!
Greetings from our GAF Mobile Space. Most of us have safely landed there. We grabbed our gear, switched on our communication devices and beamed at the first sight of another GAF-human on our screens.
Yes, „we are fully operational“.
Completely independent from any company-dock-in, we manage daily to deal with familiar data- and Earth Observation challenges.Entry into our GAF Logbook:
„We find it exciting to see how new conditions change our everyday work. For the moment and to this extent they are of course limited to the duration of this emergency situation.
But they certainly provide an excellent basis for further modernization and flexibilization of our work environment for the time thereafter. We take this positive approach together“
