GAF AG Marks 40 Years of Excellence in Earth Observation at the Living Planet Symposium 2025

July 3, 2025

GAF AG is celebrating a major milestone this year—its 40th anniversary. The company officially kicked off its anniversary celebrations last week at the Living Planet Symposium 2025 in Vienna, joining colleagues, partners and clients to reflect on four decades of growth, innovation and impact in the field of Earth Observation (EO).

Founded in 1985, GAF AG has grown from being just a small office into one of Europe’s leading EO geo-information companies. Today, it employs more than 220 staff and has delivered hundreds of successful projects spanning land monitoring, agriculture, climate, mining, and other key sectors.

“Celebrating our 40th anniversary at the Living Planet Symposium was the perfect opportunity to connect with the EO community and highlight how far we’ve come,” said Philippe Moreels, CEO of GAF AG. “It was inspiring to celebrate together with clients, partners and colleagues who have supported us along the way.”

Throughout its history, GAF AG has maintained its commitment to delivering high-quality, cutting-edge EO solutions across the full value chain. The company serves both public and private clients in Germany, across Europe, and around the world. The core to its success is its diverse and experienced team, which combines deep technical expertise with fresh innovation.

During these 40 years, GAF AG has counted on a number of key pillars, which include:

  • Development and delivery of advanced EO-based solutions
  • Long-standing partnerships with institutional and commercial stakeholders
  • A global footprint in monitoring and analysis for sustainable development
  • A people-first culture that brings together long-serving experts and new talent from across the globe

Heartfelt thanks to everyone who made the recent event in Vienna a success. It was a pleasure to welcome so many participants to this vibrant city.

Special thanks go to Josef Aschbacher, ESA Director General, Massimo Comparini, Managing Director of the Space Division at Leondardo S.p.A., and Gabriele Pieralli, CEO of Telespazio S.p.A., for their kind words, and to our CEO Philippe Moreels for his commitment and leadership in taking the company into its next exciting phase.

GAF AG’s anniversary celebrations will continue throughout 2025, with more activities and announcements planned.
